A seat at the table...

Scotland should have its own voice in the United Nations.

'Shift up a wee bit...'

by Frances Watt

What does Scotland have to say on the anniversary of the October 7th attacks?

What does Scotland have to say about the situation in Ukraine?

No-one knows because 'Scotland' is represented by delegates from the 'United Kingdom' and, whether we like it or not, they speak on our behalf.

A brief search shows that the United Nations currently has 198 members. 110 of them have a population of 10 million or less. 58 nations have a population less than Scotland's estimated 5.45 million.

We raised this poll on Twitter yesterday. It still has a full day to run so we'd kindly ask readers to share it. The 'Yes' vote has only once dipped below 90% (that we've noticed).

It's unlikely to fluctuate much in the time remaining and if it's even a vague reflection of public opinion then the sentiment is overwhelming - Scotland should have its own voice in the United Nations.

We all know there's only one way that can ever happen.
